Marathon County Rolls Out New Website
Marathon County has released a new website at www.co.marathon.wi.us. The new website has a fresh new look and feel sporting the county’s new branding of Central Wisconsin Time. The new logo, colors and taglines are evident throughout the website. The website also has a new “navigation” to help users find information faster. Information on the old site was organized around how county government is structured. Sometimes this made it difficult for citizens and visitors to find information. The new site has information organized by categories of Living Here (Live), Business Information (Work), visitor information (Visit). Users of the site can also search in other categories such as Government to find meeting agendas and minutes (a common destination). The new "How Do I?" section offers help locating information for common questions.
The Calendar list events and meeting schedules. Each department has a presence on the site. Many departments use the site make announcements or to store information that is commonly requested. For example, the Finance Department posts the past ten years’ worth of budgets and audit reports.
All of the most popular features of the old website have been migrated to the new site. Election returns are posted on the website in near real time on election nights. In early 2011 the county switched to an online job posting and application system and this feature has continued on the new website. The popular Online Mapping tool showing property boundaries and aerial photos has moved over to the new website as well.
The old website was based on software that was over ten years old. Its age limited the county’s ability to make use of new browser features. Also, the new technology behind the site makes it much more efficient for department’s to upload content rapidly to the site. The site uses the same technology that the city of Wausau’s website uses and this allows for efficient sharing of enhancements between the two websites by the joint IT organization, the City-County Information Technology Commission. We welcome comments and suggestions for enhancements – please follow the Contact Us link on the website.
