JA Be Entrepreneurial

JA Be Entrepreneurial, a new high school program, focuses on challenging students, through interactive classroom activities, to start their own entrepreneurial venture while still in high school. One of ten JA programs designed with the specific needs of upper grade students in mind, JA Be Entrepreneurial provides useful, practical content to assist students to transition into becoming productive, contributing members of society.

To facilitate the program, team members and organizations that are part of the entrepreneurial development center would take this program out to communities. While this is a classroom based activity, McDEVCO would work with JA to establish an outside the classroom approach which students would be able to access after school hours.

The objective of this program is to introduce the concepts of entrepreneurial development to youth throughout the region. By taking this approach, it is quite possible to identify potential business start ups and to identify those individuals that may be inclined to take their idea to reality. More so, it will be an opportunity to work in rural areas where these types of opportunities are not usually offered.

Each participant will be afforded the opportunity to learn what it takes to be an entrepreneur and to write a business plan. As with any type of business activity, there is usually an incentive that drives the profit motive. In this case the opportunity for the student will be to learn about entrepreneurial development, write a business plan and submit their plan against other students. There would be 2 - $1,000.00 scholarship awards to the 2 best business plans.
